Meaningful Instruction
Often, in the focus of traditional schooling, there are standards and lesson plans that are presented to students. When students meet the objectives of these standards then they are told their performance is satisfactory and are able to advance.
While growth and progression is something we emphasize at Montessori, students should be present and find meaning in what they are engaged in. Our goal is to cultivate an atmosphere of functionality where your child will be able to find meaning in functional activities needed to sustain everyday life.
Deep Concentration
Concentration involves engagement of the mind and body in activities that are stimulating. We strive to enhance the way your child engages work by focusing on a single idea or experience to cultivate concentrated attention.
Dr. Montessori, the founder of Montessori, was a staunch advocate of mindfulness and incorporating the practice into everyday life activities to build concentration faculties. Whether this involves peeling an orange or activities that involve a series of steps, your child will be able to concentrate fully on the task at hand.
Sensory Experiences
Montessori training involves attention to a sensory experience that allows your child to engage in the full array of senses. Sensory-motor systems connect the mind and body in a way that enhances cognition. Montessori emphasizes mindfulness where your child is asked to be mindful of their actions and how they affect others.
However, this is not emphasized in most conventional schooling where students are sedentary for long periods of time to absorb the curriculum. Here at Meadow Montessori, we emphasize curriculum in the same areas while also incorporating sensory movement that gives equal attention to practical work-life experience.
